Zumba!!

First of all I apologize for not updating my photo blog in a LONG time! Life seemed to go on fast forward this Summer, and I was lucky to even get my photos edited from all my sessions! This Fall when things settle down, I plan to post a lot of photos. In the mean time, I wanted to let everyone know about and an adult exercise class being offered at our dance studio, Step In Style. Its called Zumba, and its all the rage right now. I best describe it as a mixture between Latin dance, aerobics, and jazz/hip hop dance. Sounds crazy- I know, but it makes for an awesome work out and a great time. I do not teach the class (I am actually quite awful at it) but go with some friends and have a blast! This week it is changing to Wednesday nights and is offered at both 5:30 and 7:00 for an hour long and is $5/class. You don't have to sign up; you just show up to class when you want to Zumba. Our dance studio recently moved and is now located on SE 3rd St. right next to Wells Fargo. Hope to see some new faces this week!!

Apnea

We found out this week that Meredith has sleep apnea and has to have surgery to remove her tonsils and adenoids next week. For the past year or so, I have noticed that Meredith's snoring has gotten very loud and sounds like her breathing is restricted when she is sleeping. Since she has moved into a big girl bed, I will occasionally take a nap with her and noticed that she would "choke" while she was sleeping. I researched apnea a bit and made sure to talk with our ENT at our 1yr ear tube check-up. I told him about the breathing and about how huge her tonsils were. Dr. D looked into her mouth at her tonsils and said, "Wow those things are impressive!".We talked a bit about it and the ENT said he had a good feeling that Mere did have apnea but wanted us to do a little sleep study of our own and let him know we decided. Luke or I went into her room 1.5 hrs after she would fall asleep and listened to her breathing. Luke and I both prayed and prayed that God would make it very clear to us whether she had apnea or not so we weren't making her go through an unnecessary surgery. Sure enough the second night, I was in her room for 10 min, and she stopped breathing 2x. Luke went in an hour later and she stopped breathing for him. A couple of nights later Luke went in for 10min and she stopped breathing 3x ( I walked into her room and witnessed the 3rd time). The neat part about it was that I was in the middle of praying both times that she stopped breathing. God made it VERY clear to me that she had apnea. If you would, please say a prayer that the surgery goes smoothly and that she has a quick recovery-but not too quick because she isn't allowed to go anywhere or do anything for 2wks :) Since I have clue as to when Meredith will feel better, I wanted to take some summer photos. The rotten thing wouldn't look at me for anything.

These cute little cousins' grandma wanted to surprise her children with photos of their children. What a great idea grandma!! The little girl had a fever, but she lived out of town, so we made it quick. There were tons of good ones of her despite her not feeling well. The little guy was so sweet, and he kept grabbing me around my neck from behind while I was taking photos of the girl. He just wanted to cuddle and cuddle.

This is what I have been up to the last couple of weeks...

Jessie's eyes are just gorgeous! I didn't saturate them at all- I didn't even touch them. This is supposed to be a maternity photo, but you barely notice the tummy with her beautiful blue eyes popping out at you.

This family just sold their car lot and wanted some photos in front of the infamous "McDonald's Chevrolet" wall before its painted over. Aren't they sweet together!

So I am really behind on posting my faves from my past several sessions, but I had to post a pic I recently took of Mere. I am in love with this but can't decide which one I like better. Usually I prefer clean, natural photos with very little editing "effects", but I really like the soft pink glaze on the second pic. I want to get one of these and put it in Meredith's new big girl room. Which do you like the best?

I bought Meredith this Simply Shabby Chic bedding from Target in a twin size and LOVE it!! We ended up getting her a full sized bed instead so I can't use the twin sized bedding. It is past the 90 day mark where Target will return items plus I used the bed skirt and made curtains. I liked the bedding so much that I went ahead and bought it for her full sized bed, so I now I have the brand new twin set that I need to sell. It is gorgeous and the pictures really don't do it justice. It is a darker blue than the photos show. The comforter is mostly robins egg blue with white damask (there are a few white butterflies mixed into the damask). There are a few strips of white ruffles that add a bit of "girly" to the blue. The bedding set includes:

a twin sized comforter
a standard sized sham (in the blue and white damask)
a twin fitted sheet and flat sheet ( the sheet set is white with robins egg blue and pink small butterflies)
a standard pillow case
NOTE: this set does not include a bed skirt.

Zippity Doodah Day!!!

I really just wanted to take some Spring pics of Meredith with her new hair-do, but she kept getting distracted by the new addition to our family. This is Zippity Doodah Day (Doodah for short), our new dog. I might add that I did not want a dog after my Sophie died a few months back. Luke's family has bread English Bulldogs since he was very young, both of his brothers breed now, and so I knew eventually he would follow in his family's footsteps. I was just hoping it wasn't so soon! Anyways.... Meredith is in LOVE. Doodah was named by Meredith. A few days before we got her I asked Meredith what she wanted to name her new dog. She said "Mitzi". I told her no because that was her Grandma's name. She then said "Sue" I said no because that is her Great Grandma's name. She then said "Doodah" with a big smile on her face. She knew she had completely made up that name and that it was silly. I told Luke that Meredith named our new dog Doodah and without a pause he said we would name her Zippity Doodah Day. Luke is pretty quick on his feet because I had all day to think of something and couldn't. So here are the besties....

This poor little guy got "sick" during our shoot. You would have never guessed by looking through his album that he cried almost the whole time :( As soon as we realized he was sick and not just in a crummy mood we stopped taking photos. Even if he wouldn't have been sick, I would have been really pleased with all the photos we got of him. Here are a few of my faves.

This is my little cutie yesterday! She didn't really get the hang of the Easter egg hunt because as soon as she found an egg she just wanted to eat everything in it before she moved onto the next egg. Lets just say at each hunt (we had three yesterday) she only got about 5 eggs at each one because thats all she could eat before all the other kids had found the rest of the eggs. Maybe I limit her sweet intake just a little too much :)

Theses are a few weeks old, so I guess it's happy belated birthday to A! I love her in that hat!! A big thanks to my friend Lori who literally gave it to me off of her child's head. I saw her at the park awhile back and I said "ooh I love your daughter's hat. That would be an awesome photo prop". She then just gave it to me. She said her daughter had a ton of them at home that someone made for her. SCORE!!

Back Lighting

I mentioned in my last post that I would share some photos from my past couple of photo sessions. These are not those pics, but they are pretty cute. I am working on my back lighting skills (not alot of shade in the Spring with all the landscaping dead) and needed a still subject. Jessie and Koen came over to play the other day, so I grabbed my camera and put Koen in a wagon to keep him still (or as still as you can keep a toddler). You might ask, why didn't you just use your own child. Well.... Meredith REALLY doesn't like the camera in her face, and I just took some pics of her earlier this week. There was no way she was going to sit still 2 times in one week :) I zoomed in, spot metered off of K's face, then re-composed and shot. The lens hood I ordered wasn't in yet, and I forgot to take off my UV filter. Considering both those things, I am pretty happy with them.

McDonald's Night

Tonight 20% of the profits from the Washington McDonald's will go to the Bundle Up for Winter program. For those you of not familiar with Bundle Up, it is a ministry that several churches in the area do to help coat children in need. New or gently used coats, hats, and gloves are collected all year long and then distributed in October. The first year we coated over 75 children, the second year over 250 children, and this we expect many more. We are trying to raise money to help buy more coats, so please tell everyone you know to come eat at the Washington McDonald's tonight from 4-8. If you have a blog and want to post this info on your it, that would be greatly appreciated. The more people we get to eat at McDonald's tonight, the more coats we will be able to buy!!

Tonight before dinner I just mentioned let's pray. I did not say Meredith do you want to pray, she just started praying. My child's prayer (she's 2yr and 1 day) with hands folded and eyes closed with much excitement in her voice:

"Jesus, Love you. Jesus I pray thank you for Nini's food. I pray thank you Papa's food. Thank you Momma's food, Dada's food. Amen Jesus."

Oh to have the faith of a child.

My little girl is going to be two in a week! Where did the time go? It is bittersweet that she is growing up. I still want my baby, but we are having so much fun as she gets older.

At 24 months Meredith
*tells me what she wants- today she told me to "sit down right here NOW"
*asks to "chew gum" all day, and I usually give in. It's sugar free and she doesn't swallow it, so I guess its OK.
* counts to 10 -it still counts even if she consistently leaves out "5,6,7" right??
* says most of the ABC's with a little bit of prompting
* calls gas "toot toot gas", and giggles every time she does it
*Repeats EVERYTHING she hears
*Keeps secrets from me all the time (if anyone gives her a sweet she says "shhh mommy".
*started gymnastics this week and does forwards rolls like a pro
*loves to dance and can already do shuffles and bore turns.
*knows all her colors consistently
*is getting great at using opposites.
*wants to "see" everything. Today I asked her where all her happiness went and she said "I wanna see happiness".
*Tells me what she wants, but also adds in what she doesn't want. "I want water, no milk".
*Is obsessed with sweets, especially cookies. Luke and Meredith talk about Noah's Ark every night before bed. Meredith names all the animals "two horsey's, two cows, two elephants, and two cookies". haha!! Every night she never gives up, Noah has to have cookies on the ark.
*Is really into hiding right now. She hides in cabinets, closets, drawers. You name it, she hides there.

We are SO THANKFUL for this little wild thing!!

Good news though, Luke is feeling better today after having a cold the last week. People that have spent anytime with us this past week are probably pretty grossed out. We honestly only found out about Meredith yesterday, and I went to quick care today. I am going to go rest!

Camera Temporarily NOT for Sale

Ok so since my last post, Luke and I have been researching cameras and trying to pick out the "right" camera for me. After talking it out, I have decided that I should hold onto my camera at least until the end of November when I take a break from sessions. Even if I ordered a camera today, I wouldn't be comfortable using it for other people's photos until I have used it for awhile. With that said, my Rebel XTI is temporarily off the market. I will let you know when I decide to REALLY sell it! haha!

I'm pretty sure they don't come much cuter than this, but I guess I am a bit partial. I, of course being her mommy, think Meredith is pretty smart as well. Anytime I ask her what her name is she says "Mere Mere Bean". It is hilarious!! Well today Meredith had me laughing so hard because I said "Good bye dad" to my husband, and Meredith responded by saying "Good bye Luke". I thought this was cute so I asked Meredith what mommy's name was. She responded with "Brit-Bre". I had no idea she knew our names! This little kid is not only cute, she is smart and funny too.

This past week

We have successfully moved this past week..... well not really sure how successful it is yet. My hubby is sleeping on the floor beside me, while I sleep in the not-so comfortable spare bed, until our master bedroom gets completed (what a nice guy). Luke and I tried sleeping in the little, not-so comfy bed together the first night, but I woke up the next morning unable to turn my head to the left. We both were struggling to not fall to the center of the bed so I think I must have slept wrong on it. When the chiropractor ever so nicely suggested Luke camping out on the floor for a few nights until my neck got better, I jumped on that suggestion! haha! After all, it was doctors orders :) We have gone without a kitchen the past week. A little inconvenient, but that did mean I didn't have to cook, which was great because I have been busy with lots of sessions. Here are a few pics from 2 of the 4 sessions I did in the past few days. I have 2 more sessions later this week, so look for more photos soon.

This young lad's mom talked me into going to French Lick to take her son's senior pics. She didn't have to work too hard to convince me though, because I love that place. Its full of so much charm, neat architecture, plus Luke proposed to me there!

This little gal is in my dance class. I just love her to pieces. Every week she has to ask me if I met her new little sister. Maybe now that I took photos of her sister, she will remember that I have met her :)

Baby Bump

I especially enjoy taking photos of great friends. Brandi and I were pregnant together with Aspen and Meredith and our girls are only 4 weeks apart. Maybe we might get to be prego together again someday. Maybe my #2 and Brandi's #4! haha! Posting these was my small break from packing. We move tomorrow so I gotta get back at it! BTW doesn't Brandi look gorgeous when she is laying in the grass!

Family Fun

I don't know why I was nervous for this session. Well I do know why, most of the families I photograph have small children. When this nice lady called to see if I would take pictures of her husband and their grown kids, I was a little nervous. It turned out great. They were fun and relaxed. To try and get natural smiles I told them to all think about something hilarious. One of the girls said, "ooh think of the smelliest fart ever". That made for some natural smiles because everyone was cracking up. Enjoy!

Playing Catch Up

The pressure was on for this session, because my dad's cousins drove all the way from Indy for me to take their family photos. I knew that we had to get some great shots, because they couldn't just come back another time. Audrey was absolutely precious!!

How cute is this little girl. I loved the tractor picture because all her daddy, uncles and grandpa are all farmers, so this is so fitting. She gets to wear the girly tutu, but yet she is on the John Deere.

This session was just a quick one that Luke's cousin Jamie asked me to do because Ty is almost 2months and she still hadn't gotten any newborn photos. I had to squeeze her in because with getting ready to move, dance starting this week, and several other photo sessions this past week, my head is spinning.

Brody turned one last week and was all smiles- which is GREAT for me and his momma!! Brody's dad and Luke grew up together and were best buds. We got so many sweet ones of him.

Those boots are Brody's late uncle's boots from when he was a baby. How sweet is that!

This next family was the best- but with the most energy!! The kids were running circles in the yard, so I just ran around after them. The baby is is just 5 months but decided during our shoot that she was going to sit up like a pro, and get up on all 4's and start rocking back and forth. See what I mean about energy :) I am doing their family pictures in the fall and can't wait to see how much energy they have that day.

All About Dance!

It's that time again- DANCE season is getting ready to begin! The other teacher and I have finalized our schedules for the fall and we now know when we will be teaching. I teach the 3-6yr olds while the owner of the studio, Laura Parsons, teaches the older girls. Our classes consist of Ballet, Tap, and either Tumbling or Jazz depending on the child's age. I will also will be teaching a 6 week session (in October and November) which will be a beginner Hip Hop class open to children 10 and up. We are registering dancers right now and will close the class once it gets full. Classes don't begin until the second week of September. Things continue to be crazy around here but have started slowing down a bit. Here's what I have been up to...

Happy birthday Makayla! I don't think we got one bad shot. She was so pleasant and didn't fuss even one time.

And look at these kiddos- so pretty! I of course loved the photo of the little girl in the tutu and tried teaching her how to do a plie. She got the hands on the hips part right away!! One thing that wasn't pretty about this session was the fact that it was really muddy from the rain that lasted the whole night before. I slipped and fell right on my bottom- HARD. I don't know which hurt worse, my foot that I hit on a flower pot on the way down, my bottom, the fact that I got mud all over the seat of my new GAP shorts, or my pride :)

Snaggle Tooth

Here is my little miss Meredith's half toothed smiled (well really 1/3 of a tooth). I wanted to capture Mere's chipped tooth before we have it fixed on Monday. The dentist said he usually doesn't fix a chipped tooth, but in her case since she chipped so much, it is almost to the nerve, he wants to fix it. So here is my cutie pre a new toothed smile.

I have to admit, I am a bit exhausted from this past week, but has been worth it. The summer is starting to wind down, and dance is going to be starting in full force in September (for those who don't know, I am a dance teacher as well) so I have to get working on some dances for my new classes. Thankfully I have a free week in the end of August, and I am not going to be taking any pictures while I prepare for dance to begin.

Isn't this family just adorable! We had awesome weather this week for picture taking. I was supposed to take some 6mo pictures for my best friend's baby, but it got postponed due an ear infection and teething :( I was really bummed that I was going to miss out on taking advantage of the cooler weather and taking pictures. Well not even five minutes later I got an email from Krista asking if I could take pictures of her family this week. How great did that work out!! Here are a sampling of my favorites. House

Since this is a photography blog I took some photos of our house we are selling. Our house is 1636 sq. ft. with 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths on a little over an acre lot located on the NE side of town. The master suite has a full bath and walk in closet. Most of the house has real hardwood flooring with exception of the bathrooms (tile) and the master bedroom is carpeted. Practically everything in the house is brand new because we gutted most of the house and remodeled and added on a master suite and 2 car garage. Everything on the outside is all new. If any of you read my personal blog you might have seen on my "blog list" that I like to look at Rebekah Westover's Photography blog (she is a professional photographer out in Utah). She posted on her blog some ideas on how to decorate your home using photography. There was one idea in particular that I thought was too cute not to share. Click here to get to Rebekah's blog and look at the picture of the little girls room with the 4 square canvas photos hanging above the bed. Isn't that room AMAZING! I am stealing the idea and doing that in Meredith's room in our new house. And yes, I said "new house". Luke and I bought a new home so our house is for sale!! Since this is after all a photo blog, I might add some photos later of our home that is for sale.

Meredith 17 months

So I know that traditionally people don't take 17 month pictures, but since we are getting busier with other people's photo sessions now that it is warm outside, I went ahead and took a few of Meredith at 17mo. in case we miss the traditional 18 month pictures. I am in love with these (especially the first image), although I wanted one really good one of Meredith looking straight into the camera with her big beautiful brown eyes. As you can tell, she looked everywhere but into the camera. Oh well, there is always another day :)

This family drove an hour to come get their pictures taken and didn't even know me- what an honor! They recently welcomed a new little girl to the family so we took some newborn and family pictures. I was amazed at how polite and kind the whole family was. Even when little Elayna and Kevin were having a small disagreement it was even polite. Here is something I overheard the little girl say to her little brother in the kindest of voices "Excuse me, I asked you to please stop touching me. Please stop touching me". I had to snicker. Little miss Macey is such a doll! I didn't get one picture that she didn't look gorgeous in. Macey's little bro Griffen was supposed to be joining her, but he got a bug bite in his eye yesterday and woke up with a swollen eye. I am gonna take some shots of the both of the kiddos in the next week or so once the swelling in his eye goes down. Hope momma enjoys a little sneak peak! It was really hard picking just a few!

So my MIL has been getting on me that I don't post very many pictures of Meredith anymore. What can I say, she is like the shoemaker's child who goes without shoes. haha! Luke and Mere were playing outside yesterday while I got ready for the dance recital, and so he snapped a few pictures. I might be a little partial, but I think this is one of the cutest toddlers we've ever taken pictures of :)

The Armes Clan

This weekend Luke and I had our work cut out for us! We photographed the five Armes grandbabies. Really it wasn't bad at all. I had mentally prepared for a few days prior and came to the conclusion that with that many babies there would have to be some meltdowns during the shoot. Amazingly we had very few outbursts, and when we did I think it was from the cool wind and somewhat wet grass. I was a little chilly so I can only imagine how the babies felt. The very last picture was hilarious because every baby was crying and Landon was not happy either! Luke and I are really happy with the finished product. Part II Owens Sneak Peak

As promised, here is the second half of Owen's family newborn/2yr photo shoot. Courtney and I both agreed that this shoot was successful because it ended with neither the photographer or the mommy crying. Only kidding!! Take a look at the last picture. We re-posed one of family pictures we took a few months back during the Owens' maternity shot, only this time Leah was on the outside! I went a little overboard on picking out a few for a sneak peak! Yesterday I took some photos for the Owen's family. Because we were taking Ayla's 2 yr pics, Leah's newborn, and some family photos (and because of some other issues :) , we didn't get all the pictures done in one day. There will be a part two to this post in a couple of days, and it will mostly be newborn pictures of Leah. I was especially pleased with Ayla's outside shots.

My friend Lauren just started an Etsy shop (kind of like an eBay shop for crafty moms), where she sells custom made baby/toddler clothing items. Today I took the Merold boys' pictures, and I told Kelli I would put a sneak peak of our session on my blog. Getting all three of the boys together for a photo was quite the task. Bribing with Skittles worked great!!
